1 Large Skillet (for cooking beef)
1 Wooden spoon (for stirring)
1 Measuring Cup (for sauce ingredients)
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup onion finely chopped
- 1/2 cup green bell pepper finely chopped
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp mustard
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 hamburger buns
- Butter optional, for toasting buns
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Drain excess fat if necessary.
Add chopped onion and bell pepper to the skillet. Cook for 3-4 minutes until softened.
Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.
Optionally, butter the buns and toast them on a skillet for added flavor.
Spoon the Sloppy Joe mixture onto the buns and serve warm.
📌For a spicier kick, add a dash of hot sauce or red pepper flakes.
📌Ground turkey or plant-based meat can be used as a substitute for a healthier version.
