Equipment

  • 1 Large Skillet (for cooking beef)
  • 1 Wooden spoon (for stirring)
  • 1 Measuring Cup (for sauce ingredients)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup onion finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup green bell pepper finely chopped
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Butter optional, for toasting buns

Instructions

  • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  • Add chopped onion and bell pepper to the skillet. Cook for 3-4 minutes until softened.
  • Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.
  • Optionally, butter the buns and toast them on a skillet for added flavor.
  • Spoon the Sloppy Joe mixture onto the buns and serve warm.

Notes

📌For a spicier kick, add a dash of hot sauce or red pepper flakes.
📌Ground turkey or plant-based meat can be used as a substitute for a healthier version.
