Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp cloves
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans optional
  • 1/2 cup raisins optional

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch cake pan.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt.
  • In another bowl, mix the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until well combined.
  • Add eggs, one at a time, and beat until smooth. Stir in the applesauce.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Fold in the chopped nuts and raisins if using.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread evenly.
  • Bake for 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Serve as is, or dust with powdered sugar or glaze if desired.
