Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch cake pan.
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt.
In another bowl, mix the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until well combined.
Add eggs, one at a time, and beat until smooth. Stir in the applesauce.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
Fold in the chopped nuts and raisins if using.
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread evenly.
Bake for 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Serve as is, or dust with powdered sugar or glaze if desired.
